Sitges Social Year Starts Again!

Along with the rest of Europe, Winter is really starting to bite here in Northern Spain.  
We even saw a few flakes of snow yesterday.  Although that is all it was, just a few flakes.

Never let it be said, though, that cold weather is enough to stop the Spanish celebrating.

In only a week or so's time Sitges will host, arguably, it's busiest and wildest parties to celebrate Carnaval!

Ruby's Terrace Bar re-opens tonight too, YAY!  It's been a LONG 3 months!

In previous years we could never find a decent list detailing Sitges Event Annual Event Calendar, until Hugh & Craig's sterling efforts, worry no more though.  Click here for the offical Sitges Turisme Agenda in English, other languages are available on the page.

Mary, Marj & Brahim played host at their lovely house up in the mountains on Saturday night.  While it's not quite finished it's certainly impressive and it's bound to be a destination next summer!

Beiteddine Palace

is an old Sultan's palace in the mountains to the south of Beirut.  Mary & Marj drove us there as we were on our way to visit their house in the mountains.  Having never been we were looking forward to going, having the place almost all to ourselves once we did get there we certainly were not disappointed!

Parts are still in use by the Lebanese President's office to this day, for official ceremonies.

While in Beirut . .

 . . we did more touristy things than we ever did when we actually lived there.

High on the list was the National Museum of Lebanon in Beirut.  It's very small, compared to others around the world BUT perfectly formed with an expertly curated exhibition in beautiful surroundings.

Back to Beirut!

A group of extremely generous friends that attended the wedding clubbed together their frequent flyer miles, hotel points and cash to present us with the most amazing gift of a honeymoon to Beirut!

Business class flights, staying in a fabulous 5* hotel AND spending money!  We had the best time, caught up with all our old friends did loads more sight seeing / touristy things than we ever did when we lived there and, of course, took loads of pics.

Thanks again to Debbie, Ieva, Aimery, Nathan, Evita, Oli, Michael, Neal, Sotiri, Alan, Patxi, Alfredo, Carol & George.

Thanks also go to our friends in Beirut; Ciaran & Aideen, Maggie, Heather & Basil, Daryl & Tina for presents, parties, nights in and nights out!  It was so nice to spend time with everyone again.  We even got to go to the legendary Greedy Goose on Monot St.  If you ever find yourself in Beirut the Goose is the place to be, especially on a Friday!

While in the UK in November

We went on a walk round one of the local dams, Dam Flask.  Very Autumnal, cold and damp but beautiful. Thanks also to Ruth and John for putting us up again for the week, we had a great time.

Congratulations Jane & Matt

Two weeks after our wedding, it was my 'baby' brother's turn as he married Jane Dooley in Sheffield.  Another fabulous day with family & friends and Graeme got to meet even more of our family.  It was my turn to pay forward the favour Steve did for us, as I took Matt & Jane's pics in the Peace Gardens next to Sheffield's Town Hall.

We got married . .

a week ago yesterday, there are three photo galleries of that fabulous couple of days.

We started on the Thursday night, with a mixer at Hotel Liberty, thanks to Jon & Eddy.  Lunch on the day was held at Hao Jing Lao, chinese restaurant in Sant Pere de Ribes.  Many thanks to Sam for an amazing Best Man speech and to many others friends and family for guiding the group down the hill to the restaurant and getting them seated.

BUSY BUSY BUSY

So Graeme had a work trip, trade shows, to Prague & London.  Work in general was busy but has now kicked up yet another notch.  We started regular, free, Spanish classes.  Thanks to our local town council.  Then there has been general end of Summer tidying, sorting out, etc.

Though as it's still getting up towards 30 degrees here in the middle of the day, it's hard to think that it's mid-October.

All the while we've been finalising plans for our little do at the end of October.  When we get married!
